While we’re staying home, let’s do something we enjoy: drinking! But better, drinking under the guise of learning. Zoom wine classes from the comfort of your own couch!

Take a drop-in workshop to get to know a specific wine better or sign up for a weekly class and brush up on your knowledge with a small group of like-minded alcoholi----individuals. Whether hosting a special event or looking for a social gathering, let us be your guide to happy hour!

Wine 101: The Intro Course

Tuesdays
Jan 5, 12, 19, 26
6-7pm

A beginner's basic guide. In this course we will explore how wine is made and how to taste properly. We'll introduce the major varietals (some favorite, well-known wines), and learn how to sound like a wine snob without being obnoxious.

Wine 201: Gettin' Geeky With It

Thursdays
Feb 4, 11, 18, 25
6-7pm

An exploration of wine by region (France, Italy, Spain/Austria/Germany, Australia/South America). We'll talk about why these regions are renowned, their history and rules/regulations, and how that translates to your palate.

Champagne Campaign

Saturday
Dec 19
2-3:30pm

Who doesn't love popping bottles to celebrate, and what better time of year to do that than the holidays? In this class, we will explore why Champagne is the reason for the season, how it's made, and why you can't call it Champagne if it's not from the region! Christmas bling is optional (but encouraged).
$25 HOLIDAY SPECIAL

Malbec Madness

Thursday
Jan 7
6-7:30pm

For many people, myself included, Malbec was their first love affair with red wine. Argentina has been capitalizing on Malbec for years, but that's not where it started. We'll explore the history of this grape, where it’s currently thriving, and why we love it so.

Cabernet All Day

Thursday
Jan 14
6-7:30pm

Why are the good ones so damn expensive? What’s all the fuss about? Cabernet is the King of California wines, and in this masterclass we will discuss why and what makes us chase this full-bodied red. Plus, I'll spill the tea about the tasting event that really pissed off the French.

"Taylor’s wine class was a giant bright spot in the middle of quarantine. He presented the material authoritatively, but every class flowed like a conversation. There was a mix of experience levels in the class, but every person learned something. I especially enjoyed Taylor’s pairing recommendations - It helped me plan my menu each week!"

How It Works

A week before class you'll receive an email with:

  • a Zoom link

  • our upcoming class focus

  • the list of Taylor's Picks for what wine(s) to procure

While I give my suggested bottle list, you are welcome to pick anything that tickles your fancy. Buy as many as you like, or just one; it's a fully customizable experience based on your preferences and budget.

Each week you'll gain more confidence as you learn about wine and your unique palette.

Taylor's Mission

I started learning about wine at a terrible restaurant I worked at in the Flatiron District. I wanted to know why some bottles were $20 and some were $2,000. That question took me down a rabbit hole through Napa, Sonoma, Tuscany, Lazio, Bordeaux, Sancerre and some less exotic regions, like the Dutch hills of Pennsylvania. After these explorations and fifteen years in Food & Beverage, most recently as the Beverage Director at Norwood Club in Chelsea, I was ready to focus on what I really love; the communal experience of sharing wine.

I wanted to create a safe space for people who aren't used to talking about wine to feel comfortable and confident doing just that. In class, we will discuss the history and influence of certain regions, how those elements affect winemaking, your response to it, and why.

FAQ

What's a typical class like?

Each class is an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. We'll say hello, share what we are drinking, and then dive right in. While there is a curriculum in each class, and of course a tasting segment, class is conversational and relaxed. Questions will be answered as they come up, and time will be left at the end for social mingling.

How many people per class?

One of the best ways to learn is by engaging with others. I generally keep classes to a minimum of 5 and maximum of 10 participants. This way it isn't overwhelming, but you're able to connect and bounce ideas off of each other. It's also fun to find others whose palates line up with yours, which can be harder to do in groups too large or too small.

Who's in class?

Future friends! We all want to learn about wine, so we have something in common right off the bat. Strangers in the first session are often fast friends by week three. You're also welcome to recruit your friends or family and have a session for people within your network.

Why is it virtual?

So you can quarantine and support small business! Wine shops and liquor stores are considered essential (thankfully!) so this is the perfect opportunity to patronize local businesses. By asking for recommendations, you can build a relationship with your purveyor and meet new wines you'll love.
